Riders have loved our ebike rental simulator game, but the high score just got too high!

Big new from the virtual trails of Snow Canyon! We've had our ebike rental simulator game online for about a year now, a fun way for riders committed to ebike safety to get a 15% discount code for beating the high score. But for the past several months, we've noticed fewer and fewer new high scores coming in. Looks like the score had just gotten too high!

So to make it easier for the rest of us, we're rolling the high score back to zero (It had been over 4000 at the time of rollback!), giving everyone a fresh, more attainable chance of scoring that 15% discount.

For those who have played, you know the drill. But for anyone new, the ebike safety simulator game has you riding on the trails around Snow Canyon, evading cones and tumbleweeds, other riders, pedestrians, and even some local wildlife. The farther you make it, the higher your score!

We hope to see more and more of our riders trying out the game!

Adventure is Better When It's Together

Now that we're into t he new year, we're stoked to share an update that we hope will make renting with Kova even easier, especially for families.

After offering two different ebike models for the past year, we've officially made the switch to a single, all-purpose option: our Low Step Tour ebike. Riders have loved this bikes since we introduced it this time last year, and the feedback has been universally positive. Now ALL of our bikes are Low Step Tours !

Every Bike is Now Passenger-Ready

The best part of this switch? Every single ebike in our fleet is now equipped to carry passengers.

In the past, passenger seating availability depended on which model you ended up with. Now, there’s no guesswork. Whether you’re booking one bike or several, you can count on your rental being ready to handle extra riders.

We’ll continue to offer our add-on child seat for kids under 40 lbs , which remains a great option for younger riders. But this update really shines for families with kids in that tricky in-between stage.

Solving the “Hard Age” Problem (6–7 Year Olds)

If you’ve ever tried to plan a bike outing with a 6- or 7-year-old, you already know the challenge:

Too big for a traditional child seat
Not old enough (under Utah state law) to ride their own bike on public trails

With our new all-Low-Step fleet, passenger seating is no longer limited , meaning those in-between-age kids can ride comfortably and safely every time. No more worrying about availability or model mismatches.

Full Moon Rides: See Southern Utah in a New Light

A limited, late-night ebike experience under the brightest night skies of the month.

Add a little moonlight to your next adventure in St George.

Starting this month (tomorrow), Kova Rentals is offering a new kind of late-night experience: the Full Moon Ride . It's an even cooler and more unique moonlit ride along the canyon rim under the brightest night skies of each month.

Timed to start at 10PM, this ride takes advantage of the full moon's brightest glow, offering better nighttime views of Southern Utah and a unique way to explore the area in the dark. It's a ride you can only take a few nights each month, and one you won't forget. There's nothing like watching the desert come alive in the moonlight. You might even spot some wildlife along the paved paths. There's more movement than you might expect in the middle of the night. The desert doesn't sleep, it just gets quieter.

The Full Moon Ride is only available three nights each month—the night before, the night of, and the night after the full moon. That's when the light is the brightest and the views at their best.

Like the Night Ride , this midnight ride is great for skipping the heat and enjoying the quiet beauty of the desert on your own time. It's one of our favorite rides!

Check our booking calendar to see upcoming full moon dates and grab a spot. If you don't see any available dates, then the full moon may have already passed that month, and the next available dates are the following month.

Quick Full Moon Ride FAQ

How long is the ride?

This ride is a 4-hour slot starting at 10PM and ending at 2AM. All bikes must be returned by 2AM, even if picked up late.

How often is the Full Moon Ride available?

Only three nights per month—the night before, the night of, and the night after the technical full moon. The difference in brightness on the day before and after are imperceptible without a telescope, so they make for great rides too!

Do I need a headlamp or flashlight?

All our bikes are equipped with headlights, and the light of the full moon does most of the heavy lifting in terms of nighttime visibility. That said, if you have your own light, you're certainly welcome to use it. However, we do not recommend a typical flashlight or any implement that might occupy your hands while riding.

Is it safe to ride at night?

Yes! Our bikes are equipped with lights, and the trails here are paved and see low traffic at these hours. As with any nighttime outdoor activity, it's a good idea to ride with a friend or a small group. Plus, it makes the ride even more fun.

What should I wear or bring?

We recommend light layers. It can cool off quickly at night, even in the hottest months. A bottle of water and a phone are strongly encouraged.

We were recently inspired to start this series thanks to a Google review that caught our eye. One of our riders wrote:

“My husband and I had one of the most fun dates EVER doing a night ride on the Snow Canyon loop. Seriously so fun! It was a little cloudy and riding during the sunset was romantic. We stopped for ice cream at Digby’s and had cheese and crackers on a bench in Snow Canyon while we enjoyed the rest of the sunset. Can’t recommend this experience enough!”

To be honest, we’d never really thought of our bikes as part of a romantic evening—but now we can't unsee it. Thanks to our Night Rides , which allow for evening and nighttime ebike rentals, and the number of great local stops just a quick pedal away, there’s no reason your next date night can’t be something memorable, scenic, and easy to plan.

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the date from that review—consider it your own ready-made romantic evening:

Reserve your ebikes ahead of time for an evening ride. Our Night Rides give you plenty of time to cruise comfortably before and after sunset.

�� Step 2: Pick Up Your Bikes

Our rental process is contactless and easy. Just show up, unlock your bikes, and you’re on your way—no fuss, no wait.

�� Step 3: Ride Up to Snow Canyon

Start your ride heading north toward the main entrance of Snow Canyon State Park . This stretch is smooth, beautiful, and gets even better as the sun starts to dip.

About halfway in, pull over at the Snow Canyon Overlook . It’s a perfect spot to catch your breath, snap a photo, and watch the shadows stretch across the red rock.

After exiting the park, head down Snow Canyon Parkway to Digby’s Market . Inside, you’ll find an awesome ice cream parlor—ideal for a sweet treat before sunset. We are huge fans of Digby's!

Adjustments & A Fun Helmet Donation

Our Helmet Rotation Program

At Kova Rentals, we regularly rotate helmets to ensure that our riders have access to gear in the best condition possible. After helmets have been used a certain number of rides, we donate them to a local charity for resale.

At Kova Rentals, we want every rider to feel comfortable and be safe when they're out exploring Snow Canyon. Since our automate ebike rental system is all about convenience and fun, we've tried to provide helmets that are easy to adjust more universally sized.

How to Adjust Your Helmet

Rear Dial Adjustment. Our adult helmets (the white ones you'll find on the rack) have a dial located at the back of the helmet.
To make the helmet smaller: Turn the dial clockwise.
To make the helmet larger: Turn the dial counterclockwise.

Adjust until the helmet fits snugly but comfortably around your head.

Chin Strap Adjustment. Our helmets also have adjustable chin straps, featuring a buckle with a black side and a red side.
The red side is adjustable: To change the size, remove the velcro covering hiding the excess strap length.
To make shorter: pull more strap through the red buckle.
To make longer: Pull the red buckle outwards, using more of the excess strap length.

Once you find your perfect strap length, replace the velcro cover securely to prevent the excess strap from flapping while your ride.

The Joker Helmet

Recently, a friend of Kova Rentals donated a unique helmet that immediately got our attention! After a safety inspection confirming no previous collisions and verifying its safety certifications, we couldn't resist adding this unique helmet to our rack.

While its adjustability differs from our standard helmet , having no rear dial and being sized for somewhat smaller riders, there is something we just love about the uniqueness of this helmet! We don't know anything about who drew it, but we think they'd probably get a kick out of how people react to it and how many people pick it specifically for their ride!

Introducing Our New Low Step Tour Ebike Rental

Our first new ebike model in 5 years!

We've got MORE big news at Kova Rentals: For the first time in five years, we've added a new ebike model to our rental fleet: The Low Step Tour .

We're excited about the Low Step Tour (officially the Aventon Abound SR, if you're curious), because it solves a common issue we've heard from families. It has a built-in elongated rear seat, perfect for passengers around 6-7 years old. Utah law requires ebike operators to be at least 8 years old, and until now, this age group was challenging to accommodate. With this new bike, more families can comfortably enjoy riding together.

AND, with a 440 lb weight limit, you could even take some adult passengers along for a ride.

Another bonus: even though the Low Step Tour sits lower to the ground, it actually fits taller riders better than our original Cruiser model.

Capturing the Rich History of Southern Utah

Snow Canyon State Park, nestled in the high desert of southwestern Utah, offers a vivid palette of red, orange, and white sandstone cliffs. This park, just a short drive from St. George, spans approximately 7,400 acres and at an elevation of over 3,000 feet, providing a sanctuary for those seeking the serene and unique beauty of the Southern Utah. Its history, as rich as its landscape, tells the story of millennia, cultures, and the transformative power of nature.

Early History and Indigenous Peoples

Human presence in Snow Canyon dates back to 500 B.C., where the earliest inhabitants left behind evidence of their lives through rock art and archaeological sites. The Ancestral Puebloans, often called the Anasazi, from occupied the area A.D. 200 to 1250 and relied heavily on the canyon for its resources. They utilized the canyon area for hunting and gathering, supplementing their agricultural efforts closer to the river with the bounty it provided.

Following the departure of the Ancestral Puebloans, the Southern Paiutes, of which the nearby Shivwitz Band of Paiutes is a part, inhabited the region from A.D. 1200 into the mid-1800s. Their utilization of the canyon was characterized by a continuation of hunting and gathering practices, with a particular emphasis on deer, rabbits, and the collection of seeds, roots, nuts, and berries. The Southern Paiutes' craftsmanship, demonstrated through the creation of baskets, sandals, and other items from canyon resources, highlights their resourcefulness and the cultural significance of the area to their daily lives.

European Exploration and Settlement

The exploration and subsequent settlement of Snow Canyon and the surrounding regions by Europeans began notably with the journey of the Dominguez-Escalante Party in 1776. This expedition, led by Franciscan friars Francisco Atanasio Dominguez and Silvestre Velez de Escalante, sought to find an overland route from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to the Spanish missions in California. They left Santa Fe in July 1776, navigating through what is now Colorado, then into Utah, ultimately crossing the Colorado River near present-day Moab. Their journey took them into the heart of Utah, including the areas surrounding Snow Canyon, marking the first European exploration of the area, and likely the Southern Paiutes’ first interaction with outsiders. The expedition, recorded in Escalante's journal, laid the groundwork for future explorers and set a precedent for the mapping and understanding of the Western United States. Though they did not reach California due to harsh winter conditions and were forced to return to Santa Fe, their trek was not fruitless; they ultimately revealed the potential for settlement in the region.

Following this initial exploration, the region saw further interest from fur trappers and government survey teams, drawn by the promise of rich lands documented by the friars. However, it was the arrival of Mormon pioneers in the mid-19th century that marked the beginning of significant settlement. Under the direction of Brigham Young, these settlers established communities in the surrounding areas, including St. George in 1861.

They may not have been immediately aware of Snow Canyon, but according to the state parks department , it came to their attention after pioneers wandered in searching for lost cattle. After this, Snow Canyon became a site for grazing, exploration, and leisure for these new settlers. The canyon's unique geological features and potential for agriculture likely made it an area of interest for these communities looking to establish a new life in the West. Evidence of their leisurely visits and exploration can still be found on the Pioneer Names trail, where several pioneers signed their name.

This marked a pivotal shift in the canyon's history, from a relatively undisturbed natural landscape to one intertwined with human settlement and use.

Transition to State Park

An area within the canyon was officially designated as a park in 1958, initially named Dixie State Park. This foundational step was followed by the donation of 296 acres from Washington County to the State Parks Commission in 1959, marking the park's early development phase. Not too long after this, the state made several separate land purchases within the canyon, including the acquisition of Joseph Blake's 898-acre ranch. These acquisitions were pivotal in shaping the park's current expanse and offerings, reflecting its growth from a small, donated parcel toward the more substantial recreational and natural preserve it is today.

Naming and Development

The park was named in honor of Lorenzo and Erastus Snow, prominent figures in Utah's early history. Since its establishment, Snow Canyon has undergone numerous developments, from infrastructural enhancements to the introduction of recreational facilities, making it accessible and enjoyable for visitors. Efforts were made to preserve its natural beauty while accommodating the needs of the public, including the construction of trails, picnic areas, and campgrounds.

Cultural and Recreational Significance

Snow Canyon has not only served as a backdrop for numerous films, adding to its cultural significance but also remains a favored destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Its diverse landscape offers opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, and exploration, attracting visitors from around the world. The park's trails wind through lava flows, sand dunes, and rock formations, each telling a story of geological processes and human interaction with the land.

While in the canyon researching for this piece, we interviewed one visiting adventurer named Evan, who told us: “Everyone’s heard of Zion, and most come down here without ever having heard of Snow Canyon. I’ve been all around this canyon over the years—hiking, climbing, rappelling; you name it, and let me tell you, there are some hidden treasures in this canyon that are every bit as good as anything Zion has to offer.”

Modern Use and Conservation

As a protected area that focuses on preserving its ecosystem and historical sites, Snow Canyon has found a great balance with recreational use. A significant conservation effort at Snow Canyon is the Tortoise Education Trail project , with an estimated budget of $50,000-$55,000, funded mainly through donations. This initiative, led by Friends of Snow Canyon State Park, aims to educate visitors about the desert tortoise and the significance of habitat conservation. The Friends of Snow Canyon, a nonprofit group, supports the park through fundraising, advocacy, and volunteering, highlighting community involvement in conservation efforts.

Additionally, Snow Canyon offers a variety of trails with different access restrictions to protect sensitive areas. For example, Johnson Canyon is open only for a few months each year, and Jenny's Canyon closes temporarily to protect nesting birds.

The park is also upgrading its infrastructure to enhance visitor experience and environmental protection, such as adding a partial shade pavilion at Paradise Canyon and improving existing facilities. Volunteer efforts help maintain and reroute trails, like the Lava Flow trail, to ensure safety and enjoyment for visitors while preserving the park's natural state.

We at Kova are excited to announce the release of the Kova Snow Canyon Guide, which we hope will be a helpful resource for planning more leisurely adventures in one of St. George, UT's best attractions. At Kova Rentals, we love casual, low-intensity exploration and adventure, and this guide was designed to cater specifically to everyone seeking a more relaxed experience around Snow Canyon State Park.

Our guide details various points of interest along the Snow Canyon Loop, an 18-mile paved loop that circles through the park, so you can enjoy an ebike ride and plan stops that sound interesting to you along the way. We include more sightseeing and photo-focused spots like the Snow Canyon Overlook and the Petrified Dunes, hiking trails like Hidden Pinyon and Lava Flow. We've even included some other types of adventure around the loop, like climbing or rappelling at Cougar Cliffs, or playing at the Snow Canyon Sand Dunes.

Do I Need to Wear an eBike Helmet?

While Utah has no helmet requirements for eBikes, Easy Rider Rentals requires you to wear one while riding our bikes. It’s a good idea for liability purposes, plus we’d like you to stay safe so you can rent our bikes again in the future.

Helmets were invented to protect your head in the event of an accident. The top speed of an eBike can be as high as 28 miles per hour, and while this may not seem like a lot, keep in mind that eBikes offer no protection in the event of a crash. You could suffer brain damage and other head injuries from a fall.

When it comes to helmets, it’s important that you choose the right one. Not all are created equal, and their construction varies based on the type of activity for which they are intended. For example, when looking for a helmet for your eBike ride, you may come across the following helmet types:

Best eBike Helmets

So which are the best eBike helmets to consider? Choose one of these highly-rated options.

Giro Bexley MIPS. This futuristic helmet is safe and comfortable. It features a sliding shield to protect the eyes and uses the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) to redirect energy in a crash.
Lumos Matrix. Another futuristic-looking helmet, the Matrix features LED matrix lighting technology that can be used to signal your intentions (turning, braking, etc.). It comes with a MIPS liner and has a universal fit.
Abus Pedelec 2.0. While this helmet doesn’t offer any MIPS protection, it’s perfect otherwise. It’s lightweight and offers the ultimate in comfort and visibility—all at a great price.
